Can a bathtub be reglazed/refinished more than once?

Dawn P asked:

My tub and ceramic tile tub surround was refinished 10 or 12 years ago. It is beginning to show age. There are spots that are pealing revealing the old surface. I am trying to avoid replacing the tub, as I would also have to replace the ceramic tile in the tub enclosure. I would probably also have to replace the ceramic tile floor as the new tub footprint would likely be smaller than the existing.
