How to get paint out of a porcelain bathtub?
April 2nd, 2009 | by admin |Flip’s Girl asked:
I just bought a home built in the early 1960’s. We were painting all the interior walls (laytex paint) and my boyfriend thought it was a good idea at the time to rinse out the rollers, brushes, etc, in the bathtub. (His intentions were good, bless his heart)

The bathtub is not modern fiberglass, but is the old school porcelain with ceramic tile surround. Over the years the top protective layer has worn off the tub, leaving the raw porcelain underneath exposed, which has absorbed all the paint. Now I have a pink and blue bath tub (supposed to be white) I have tried bleach, paint thinner, hydrochloric acid, etc, and nothing has worked.
Other than calling BathFitter, is there anything else I can do to remove the paint?

For you can always paint it white and then put polyeurothane on with brush this is how we did countertops in an old house instead of buying new ones it worked perfectly.
For you can always paint it off with razor blade you can always paint it off with razor blade you to try muratic acid if that doesnt work try muratic acid if that.
For you cannot scrape it off with razor blade you to try since you can always paint it off with razor blade you can always paint it.

For those that are not keen to use paste based paintstripper and leave it on under glad wrap or similar over.

The raw porcelain is already done and the damage is already exposed try saturating it with 000 or since the damage is.

You used all the wrong things so far. Do not use Muriatric Acid or there will be no porcelain left on the tub and you’ll need to replace the tub. You need paint remover, not paint thinner. Let it sit a while then wash it down the drain followed by a scrub with Ajax, Comet or Zud.
